To ensure residue removal, wash the can opener with warm soapy water, paying special attention to the area around the blades. Then, before using, rinse with clean water and air dry.

Electric can openers require cleaning as well, but the process is slightly different. First, unplug the opener. Then, using a sponge dampened with warm, soapy water, clean the opener.
