This lunch box allows you to heat up or even cook your meals in it. Expect a light meal, but don’t expect a full course meal. It comes with two aluminum bowls that you can use to store your food or to cook a simple meal of rice and steamed eggs.
Fatin used the electric lunch box as directed in the manual to prepare a quick and easy buka meal. Simply fill the lunch box with water and place the two aluminum bowls inside to steam and heat or cook your food. If you’re just warming up your lunch, all you need is 50ml of water and 20-30 minutes. To steam rice, however, you will need 160ml of water and 32-36 minutes. Meanwhile, 25ml of water and 10-15 minutes will suffice for steamed eggs.
Fatin put this to the test by pouring exactly 160ml of water and rice into one of the aluminum bowls. She closed the lunch box and started steaming the rice, as instructed. Meanwhile, she steamed her eggs in the other bowl, and after about 10 minutes, the eggs were almost done. After another 20 minutes, the rice was done, and there was no discernible difference between it and a regular rice cooker.
Fatin finds it to be an excellent addition to any kitchen, not just during Ramadan. Not only is it a portable lunch box for when you need to head back to work after the Raya festivities, but it also serves as an emergency option during Ramadan if there are any unforeseen incidents, such as running out of cooking gas. If there are any flaws, it’s probably that there isn’t a built-in timer function, so you’ll have to keep track of how long you’ve been steaming yourself.
